The Effect of Geographical Indications (GIs) on the Koerintji Cinnamon Sales Price and Information of Origin

This paper focuses on the impact of geographical indications (GIs) Koerintji cinnamon its value chain. The study was performed from September 2017 to November in Talang Kemuning, Kerinci regency, Indonesia. A village farmers’ group surveyed using a semi-structured questionnaire, roundtable discussions, interviews, and direct observations understand whether GIs improve income, source production, promote product quality. Using descriptive method, literature topic analyzed, chain structured review’s findings. helped us better how GIs’ effects are dispersed among actors eventually enter areas which GI commodities originate. generate added value, especially for farmers buyers. Specifically, by cinnamon’s handbook requirements, efficiency buyers has improved. studied population included Cinnamon Jambi Geographical Indication Protection Society (MPIG-K2J) Tani Saktik Alam (TAKTIK), farmer group. To obtain GI, TAKTIK had implement good agriculture practices manufacturing based handbook. Results show that developed system monitor post-harvest handling assuring safe high-quality supply global spices market. Following book members follow specific procedures, including selecting raw materials, grading, origin verification, quality control. Furthermore, enable claim price premium. As result, presence credibility farmers, leading improvement.
